If your vehicle has a Digital Service Record (DSR) we will not be able to update or reset this.

MOT

In the UK, all vehicles that are three years old or more require an MOT every year. Unlike a service, this test is a legal requirement and includes a range of vehicle safety checks to ensure your car is roadworthy and fit for purpose as per the guidelines set out by the DVSA.

You shouldn’t wait until your MOT is about to expire before booking your next appointment. In fact, you can arrange your test up to a month in advance and still maintain the same renewal date - so why not plan ahead and book your MOT with Tyre Pros today?

What’s included in an MOT?

Taking around an hour to complete, an MOT test incorporates a number of vehicle safety checks. Each of the following parts of the vehicle will be inspected during the test:

Bodywork

The structure and body shell of the vehicle are checked for excessive damage. Any sharp edge can result in an MOT failure. Towbars are also checked in terms of security, condition and inappropriate repairs or modifications.

Bonnet

The bonnet will be inspected to ensure that it securely latches in the closed position.

Brakes

The MOT tests the vehicle's braking system in terms of efficiency, operation and condition. Most vehicles are tested on a rolling road brake tester - a method which allows the tester to carry out an inspection of the vehicle while it’s in a static state.Where applicable, the anti-locking braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) will also be checked, as well as the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) for each of the following; ABS, ESC, the electronic parking brake and brake fluid warning.

Doors

During the MOT check, the technician will make sure that each door opens and closes correctly and that the latch is secure when in the closed position. The test will make sure that the doors open from both the inside and outside.

Electrical Wiring And Battery

A check will be carried out for any electrical wiring that is visible, and the battery will be assessed to ensure it is secure and is showing no sign of leakage.

Exhaust System & Emissions

The MOT test will measure your exhaust emissions, ensuring that the vehicle is within the specified guidelines and that the exhaust is complete, secure, without serious leaks and silences effectively.

Fuel System

The fuel system is inspected for leaks and to ensure that the fuel cap fastens and seals securely.

Horn

The horn will be tested to ensure it works effectively.

Lights

The condition and colour of your vehicle’s lights will be inspected during the test. The test also includes an inspection of the headlamp to ensure the aim is correct, as well as making sure the main beam warning light is fully operational.

Load Security

A check will be carried out to ensure your boot or tailgate can be secured in the closed position.

Mirrors

The mirrors on your vehicle will be inspected in terms of condition and security.

Registration Plates

The tester will check the condition, security, legibility and format of letters and numbers on both the front and rear registration plates.

Seats

During the test, the driver’s seat is checked for adjustability, and the rest of the vehicle’s seats are checked in terms of security and to make sure that the seat backs can be secured in the upright position.

Seatbelts

All of the vehicle’s seatbelts, including those in the back of the vehicle, are checked to ensure they are the right type, in good condition and operate correctly. The MOT tester will also check the MIL for each airbag and seatbelt pretensioners.

Steering and Suspension

The MOT tester will check the vehicle’s steering and suspension system to make sure it operates correctly and is in good condition. The steering lock mechanism will also be checked if necessary.

Wheels and Tyres

The vehicle's wheels and tyres are tested in terms of condition, size and type, as well as to make sure each has a sufficient amount of tread depth. The tester will also check the MIL for any faults with the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) if this has been installed. It’s important to note that spare tyres are not inspected during an MOT test.

Wipers and Washer Jets

During the MOT test, the nominated tester will check that the vehicle's wipers and washer jets operate properly and provide a clear view of the road.

Windscreen

The condition of the windscreen will be checked, ensuring that there are no cracks or chips that may affect the driver's ability to see the road in front of them.

Vehicle identification number

The tester will check that the Vehicle Identification Number is clearly displayed on the vehicle.
