How does a battery work?

A battery is simply an electrical storage device which stores power until you are ready to use it.

When you start your vehicle the battery will supply power to the starter motor, which turns the engine over. It will also supply power to the spark plugs or glow plugs in order to ignite the fuel and air mixture that has been compressed in the engine combustion cylinders.

The power used during the staring up process is then replaced by the alternator, which supplies the bulk of electrical current to your car’s electrical systems; keep your battery fully charged.
